1793. As the French Revolution sends shockwaves through Europe, its fires reach the Caribbean, igniting uprisings and political chaos across the sugar-rich island of St. Lucia. A new French envoy arrives to enforce revolutionary rule – along with a guillotine – and royalist sympathisers are given a choice: flee or die.
When royalist Captain Marcel Deschamps is captured and imprisoned as a British spy, Commander Evan Ross and Lieutenant James Wilton are dispatched to discover his fate and, if possible, extract him. But their plans falter when their agent and Wilton's lover, Manon Shannon is arrested during a reconnaissance mission.
As the British officers race against time to rescue their people, they uncover a volatile secret: Deschamps has hidden the colony’s wealth to keep it from the new regime and the revolutionaries will stop at nothing to find it.
With blood in the streets and war on the horizon, Ross and Wilton must navigate shifting alliances, dangerous passions and the opening salvos of war.
