1798. As war with revolutionary France rages through the Caribbean, all eyes turn to the richest prize of all: Saint Domingue, the French colony on the western half of Hispaniola. The British are desperate to seize it, but their efforts are thwarted by brutal tropical disease and by the fierce resistance of rival Black generals Toussaint L’Ouverture and André Rigaud.
Now, with France’s profits from the colony under threat, a new French administrator arrives to assert control – bringing with him two ruthless spies that Royal Navy officers Evan Ross and James Wilton have faced before.
Tasked with turning the tide, British General Thomas Maitland enlists Ross and Wilton in a final campaign to claim the island. But in Saint Domingue, nothing is simple. Loyalties shift, violence flares and the British officers are caught in a web of deadly intrigue as competing forces battle for dominance.
