Lyle Garford lives in Vancouver, Canada now, but he grew up on the cold Canadian Prairies, where curling up with a book was always a good idea on a cold winter night. This is also why he was attracted when he was young to the warm and exotic sugar islands of the Caribbean. After University he devoured novels in the age of sail genre set in the area, hooking him in turn on the fascinating history of slavery, the history of the British Royal Navy, life on sugar plantations, and the colourful characters populating this era. On retiring from a career as a call centre manager he has dedicated his time to writing books, with many set in the era.
