Interview Phillipa Nefri Clark on her new novel The Heart Match

How would you describe the tone and atmosphere of the novel l The Heart Match in a few words?

Heartwarming, gentle, funny.

If Izzie and Bart had a song, what would it be?

Just the way you are by Bruno Mars (because Izzie doesn’t see how special she is).

What do you love most about Izzie as a main character?

She is stubborn and protective of those she loves.

What do you think readers will most relate to in either Izzie or Bart?

Izzie cares deeply about her family. Bart has a lot of love to give.

How long did it take you to write The Heart Match?

About 3 months for the first draft.

Do you ever surprise yourself with where your characters take the story?

Every time! I don’t plan much so often end up somewhere unexpected.

What do you hope readers feel after finishing one of your books?

Happy, hopeful, satisfied.

You write across several genres – what draws you to romance in particular?

I adore happy ever afters and how different couples find their way to theirs.

What’s a typical writing day like for you?

I’m up by 6am to do emails and feed the doggo. I then either take care of marketing and admin or dive straight into writing. I work until about 6pm. But as I work from home I take regular break to walk the doggo or enjoy the garden.
