Your book is finished and you want to give it the best possible start? Then you should create a classic checklist with all the tasks and deadlines that you won't forget and definitely need to plan.

We have put together a few ideas and tips for you:

#1 Make sure your book is available online or at least available for pre-order and that all distribution channels are working properly before you start actively promoting your book.

#2 Update your author page on Amazon and indicate that your book is now available.

#3 Write a list of all your activities for the launch:

  • What are your plans?
  • What do you want to achieve for your book?
  • Send emails to colleagues, family, and friends
  • Write social media posts
  • Upload posts for media, bloggers, and reviewers
  • Update blog posts
  • Send review copies … etc.

#4 Where can people buy your book? Add links to retailers on your website and your own “Buy now” button, such as PayPal and/or a link to the book on Amazon and other retailers.

#5 Send an email to family, friends, colleagues, etc., announcing your publication and asking for support. Provide an email template and sample social media posts for them to share. Make it as easy as possible for them to help you.

#6 Write and schedule several blog and social media posts to go out during launch week.

#7 You can also send pre-launch emails to let people know that the book is being published and when exactly pre-orders will be available.

#8 Write to traditional media outlets and find a hook that might pique editors' curiosity (upcoming holiday, recently published statistics, etc.).

#9 Write a news item (perhaps even a press release) and send it to the relevant media outlets (again, you should create a list early on and keep it up to date).

#10 Write to bloggers and ask them to review your book, interview you, or accept a guest post from you.

#11 Send your news to internet radio shows and podcasters.

#12 How about a launch party (if you like that sort of thing)? Either organise it at your home or perhaps through a bookseller friend.

Once you've done all that, monitor your sales status on Amazon during the launch—the lower the rank, the more books you're selling. Interact with your readers and those who follow you on social media and respond to blog comments (not just during the launch phase).

Make sure people out there know that you are committed to the cause and grateful for their support.

We wish you good luck and the best of success!
