THE ROLE

If you're working in rights acquisition, foreign rights, or literary licensing at a publishing house, literary agency, or media rights business — and you know the US crime thriller and romance markets inside out — this might be for you.

We're an independent digital-first publisher across three language markets: German, English, and French. Commercial fiction — romance, crime thriller, suspense — is what we do. You'll work within a team of rights management executives, leading our acquisition of English-language rights from US authors and agencies, and own the pipeline that turns those titles into original-language English as well as French and German-language bestsellers.

As Senior Executive Rights Management, you will lead the acquisition of English-language book rights — primarily from US authors and agencies — for our Crime Thriller and Romance publishing programme, and own the translation pipeline that brings these titles to our French and German readers. This is a newly created role reporting directly to the International Rights Management and Business Development Director.

You will build and manage a pool of freelance translators and proofreaders, and take ownership of our Hybrid AI translation and production projects, ensuring quality and pace keep up with an expanding acquisitions pipeline.

This is not an editorial content-creation role. It is a relationship-driven, commercially minded position for someone who knows the US and UK rights landscape, has the contacts to act fast on the right titles, and can build the processes that turn acquired rights into published, translated books at scale.

• Rights acquisition strategy for Crime Thriller and Romance titles from US authors, for English-language originals as well as for translation and publication in French and German
• Relationships with rights agencies and literary agents across the US and UK, plus direct relationships with authors and their representatives
• Negotiation and closing of rights and licensing agreements, including terms, advances, and royalty structures
• The translation pipeline from acquisition through to French and German-language publication, including scheduling, budgeting, and quality control
• A pool of freelance translators and proofreaders — recruitment, briefing, scheduling, and quality assurance
• Hybrid AI translation and production projects, balancing speed, cost, and quality across human and AI-assisted workflows
• Rights tracking and contract administration
• Close collaboration with the Editorial and Marketing teams on title selection, positioning, and launch planning
• Identification of new authors, agencies, and genre trends ahead of catalogue expansion

• Extensive, active contacts at rights agencies and literary agencies in the US and UK. France and Germany a bonus
• A track record of acquiring English-language book rights directly from authors as well as through agents
• Deep familiarity with the US Crime Thriller and Romance markets — authors, agents, trends, and deal norms
• Experience managing translation or localisation pipelines, ideally into German and/or French
• Experience building and managing a pool of freelance translators and/or proofreaders
• Comfort working with, or a strong interest in, Hybrid AI translation and production workflows
• Strong negotiation skills and confidence structuring rights and licensing deals
• Fluent in English. German language skills strongly preferred; additional languages are an added bonus
